Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar announced to the Rajya Sabha that discussions with political leaders on the National Judicial Appointment Commission (NJAC) were productive. The meeting, which took place a day prior, emphasized cooperation and drew participation from both the ruling and opposition parties, reflecting a unified approach to addressing public concerns.
Dhankar clarified that the discussion was not about conflicts between institutions. Instead, it emphasized that the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary need to work together under established checks and balances. The gathering concluded with party leaders agreeing to extend discussions internally before returning for further deliberation on the NJAC issue.
Dhankar had earlier highlighted the significance of the NJAC Act, arguing that its enactment could have significantly altered the landscape of judicial appointments. This meeting followed recent controversies involving Justice Yashwant Varma, amid ongoing national dialogues about judicial integrity and governance. Both political parties indicated their commitment to continuing discussions at the Chairman's behest.
