The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, initiated an unprecedented training session for Block Level Officers (BLOs) at the India International Institute of Democracy & Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi. Alongside Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi, Kumar underscored the importance of these training sessions designed to upskill over 1 lakh BLOs nationwide.

This comprehensive capacity-building initiative targets poll-bound states first, with 109 BLOs from Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam participating in an intensive two-day residential program. The training, which is also attended by Electoral Registration Officers and District Election Officers from several states, is structured to impart vital knowledge concerning the RP Act 1950 and the Registration of Elector Rules 1960.

Emphasizing the need for error-free electoral rolls, Kumar advised state governments to appoint seasoned SDM-level officers as EROs, and to choose BLOs based on seniority and familiarity with local polling stations. He reiterated the Commission's commitment to maintaining transparency and efficiency in the electoral process, urging BLOs to exhibit courtesy during voter interactions. The training marks a significant step in enhancing democratic management across the country.
