In a strong endorsement of free speech, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge extended his support to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra amidst mounting pressure on dissenting voices. Kharge, through a social media post, accentuated the crucial role of free expression in safeguarding democracy's foundations.

Kharge's statement underscored that challenging authority is not antipatriotic but a duty owed to democracy, emphasizing that true patriotism involves accountability. He advocated for resistance against suppression attempts, asserting that democratic spirits only amplify stifled voices.

Contrastingly, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged caution in wielding freedom of expression. He stressed lawful expression, warning against using speech to sow division. This comes as Mumbai Police filed an FIR against Kamra, following a complaint by a Shiv Sena MLA.
