Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal General Secretary Priyanka Tibrewal has leveled serious accusations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, suggesting a 'possible cover-up' in the investigation of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. Tibrewal's remarks come amid growing public scrutiny and demand for transparency in the handling of the case.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar intensified the controversy by alleging that three leaders, including Somnath Dey, were involved in the crime. Majumdar accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of rewarding Dey with a key municipal post as a means of covering up the incident.

The allegations have sparked protests in North 24 Parganas, led by BJP members, as questions loom about the role of political figures in the tragedy. The case, which revolved around the death of a 31-year-old female postgraduate trainee doctor, has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following dissatisfaction with the local police's investigation. The case continues to be monitored by the Calcutta High Court, with calls for justice mounting from both the legal system and the public.
