In an exclusive interview with ANI, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a strong stand against DK Shivakumar and the Congress party over recent comments advocating for constitutional changes to implement religion-based reservations in Karnataka. Adityanath described these remarks as an insult to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar's legacy, asserting that Ambedkar had firmly rejected such quotas during the Constitution's framing.
Adityanath elaborated on the historical context, recalling that Ambedkar had championed social reservations for those marginalized by untouchability, a stance that influenced the Constitution's special provisions. Criticizing the Congress, Adityanath alleged that since 1952, the party has repeatedly tampered with Ambedkar's vision, contrasting it with the BJP's policies, such as ending 'teen talaq', claiming it as a significant step for women's empowerment.
Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar has accused the BJP of misquoting him and spreading misinformation, asserting plans to file a breach of privilege claim. Shivakumar condemned the Karnataka state cabinet's move to amend the KTPP Act for minority contractor reservations, which has been met with backlash from BJP and JD(S).
