In a significant move, the Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved a substantial increase in the honorarium for part-time members of the state's Second Law Commission. According to an official release, the honorarium will rise from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 per month, following an amendment to the notification dated May 26, 2021.
The Law Commission serves as a crucial body for law reforms in Haryana. Both part-time and full-time members play a key role in defining topics and references for the Commission's endeavors. In a bid to further support small traders, the Haryana government announced a one-time tax settlement scheme aimed at easing the tax burden and penalties.
Under the new tax scheme, the government will exempt 60 per cent of the outstanding amounts below Rs 10 lakh, requiring taxpayers to pay only 40 per cent of these dues. For disputes ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10 crore, taxpayers will be responsible for paying 50 per cent of the outstanding amounts. In cases where disputes exceed Rs 10 crore, taxpayers must settle the full amount. This scheme, providing substantial tax and penalty exemptions, will be effective from April 7, as confirmed by the Chief Minister.
