Over 114 individuals have been detained and thirteen cases filed in connection with the March 17 violence in Nagpur, which saw stone-pelting and vehicles set ablaze due to rumors of a holy 'chadar' being burnt. Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal emphasized the continued action against those involved, noting that some of the accused hail from outside Nagpur.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment squad recently demolished illegal structures belonging to accused Yusuf Sheikh and Faheem Khan, both linked to the Nagpur riots case. These violent clashes erupted over the demand to remove Aurangzeb's grave amid baseless claims that a community's holy book was destroyed during protests.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the arrest of 92 individuals tied to the violence. Fadnavis, who also serves as Home Minister, highlighted the role of social media in spreading the incendiary rumors. He further declared that financial recovery for damages would be pursued from the rioters, utilizing bulldozers and enforced property sales if necessary.
