Delhi Boosts Financial Assistance for Senior Citizens
The Delhi government has increased the monthly financial assistance for senior citizens, with the aid rising to Rs 2,500 for those aged 60-69 and Rs 3,000 for those above 70. An extra Rs 500 is added for minorities. A total of Rs 3,227 crore has been allocated for these schemes, alongside Rs 20 crore for recreation centers.

The Delhi government has introduced a financial boost for senior citizens, raising monthly assistance to Rs 2,500 for those aged between 60 and 69, and Rs 3,000 for individuals above 70 years. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the changes while presenting the budget, emphasizing the government's commitment to strengthening support schemes for the elderly population.
Additionally, senior citizens from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and minority communities in the 60-69 age bracket will benefit from an additional Rs 500 monthly. The initiative, according to Gupta, aims to cater to the diverse needs of the city's aging demographic, fostering inclusivity and financial security.
A substantial Rs 3,227 crore has been allocated to these schemes. Furthermore, Rs 20 crore has been specially earmarked under the 'Grant In Aid (GIA) to Recreation Centres for Senior Citizens' scheme, to enhance social and recreational spaces for the elderly, offering them spaces for relaxation and community engagement.
