Assault on Army Officer Sparks Probe into Punjab Police Conduct

An Indian Army officer, Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, has allegedly been assaulted by members of the Punjab Police near a roadside eatery in Patiala on March 13. The incident has resulted in the registration of an FIR and a subsequent police inquiry.

Lt. Gen Wadhwa, Chief of Staff at HQ Western Command, reported on the situation, confirming that Colonel Bath was initially treated at a civil hospital before moving to a military hospital and finally receiving care at the Command Hospital in Chandimandir. The officer is currently recuperating from his injuries.

The Punjab Police have regretted the actions of the officers involved. Immediate suspensions and transfers have been ordered for the personnel involved. A Special Investigation Team, led by an Additional Director General of Police, has taken over the probe to ensure timely conclusions.

Lt. Gen Wadhwa emphasized the need for a just and transparent investigation, urging that those found guilty be held accountable to restore public trust. On March 22, four police officers were suspended and transferred following the incident.
