Jammu & Kashmir Pledges Free Electricity for AAY Households
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the legislative assembly that his government is committed to providing 200 free units of electricity to AAY households, as promised in their election manifesto. The initiative will integrate with the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojna to alleviate financial burdens for low-income families.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his government's commitment to delivering on its election promise of providing 200 free units of electricity to households under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). Abdullah made this announcement in the legislative assembly, integrating the scheme with the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojna to support low-income families.
During the assembly session, Abdullah assured that this initiative is just the beginning and will be expanded over time. He addressed concerns about the implementation and financial burden on the exchequer, promising a structured rollout of the scheme to benefit the most deserving.
Addressing questions related to electricity tariffs, Abdullah highlighted that the current rates in Jammu and Kashmir are among the lowest in the country, with specific concessions for Below Poverty Line consumers. The chief minister also mentioned efforts to streamline billing systems and extend the existing amnesty scheme to address outstanding arrears, providing relief to domestic consumers.
