In a move to uplift women's status in society, the Delhi government has rolled out a series of welfare schemes designed to bolster their safety and financial independence. Key initiatives include the installation of 50,000 new CCTV cameras, the introduction of Pink PCR units, and a monthly honorarium to assist women.
As part of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, an impressive Rs 5,100 crore will be set aside to acknowledge and support women's unpaid domestic work. Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana aims to aid pregnant women with monetary assistance and nutrition kits, backed by a Rs 210 crore budget.
Transportation accessibility is set to improve with new travel cards replacing pink tickets for free bus rides, while the expansion of women's hostels and recruitment of female police personnel will form part of Delhi's comprehensive plan. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta underlined these efforts during the presentation of the 2025-26 Budget, emphasizing a commitment to a safer and more equitable city for women.
