In a significant political move, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gaurav Bhatia has urged the resignation of Congress figures Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, pending full disclosure of ties with the Quattrocchi family. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Bhatia referenced statements allegedly made by India's former Ambassador to Italy, implicating the Congress leaders in the Bofors scandal.
During a press conference focused on the enduring Bofors controversy, Bhatia asserted that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was identified as a key facilitator linked to Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi. The Bofors case, which emerged after allegations of a Rs 64-crore bribe linked to a defense deal, has long been a source of political strife for the Congress party.
Meanwhile, private investigator Michael Hershman, known for his insights into corruption, is prepared to provide new information on the scandal. Hershman, who discussed the matter with Advocate Ajay Aggarwal via WhatsApp, plans to meet in the USA to unveil further evidence. The CBI has sought Hershman's cooperation in pursuing the investigation, as questions linger over past government actions regarding the case.
