Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha has entered the fray concerning the recent uproar over remarks made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Jha claims the controversy is a tactic to obfuscate more pressing issues. Speaking with ANI, Jha stated, "It is to divert attention from the key issues," remarking that the Karnataka Deputy CM's comments were exaggerated to an unprecedented extent.
Jha highlighted the urgent matter that Parliament ought to have addressed - the cash case involving Delhi HC judge Yashwant Varma. "What was the most important issue yesterday for Parliament? Stack of cash," he reiterated, questioning the decision to focus on the deputy CM's statements instead. This controversy erupted amidst escalating debates surrounding Shivakumar's alleged comments on constitutional changes for 'religion-based' reservations in Karnataka.
DK Shivakumar has countered the BJP, accusing the party of spreading misinformation and intentionally misquoting him. He announced plans to address the issue legally, saying, "I will take a breach of privilege on this. I will fight a case." Shivakumar also accused the BJP of orchestrating a campaign to mislead the public. His comments triggered backlash from BJP leaders, particularly concerning the Karnataka cabinet's approval of an amendment to the KTPP Act, aiming to allocate a four percent reservation in tenders to minority contractors.
Meanwhile, Jha also commented on the controversy involving comedian Kunal Kamra, stating, "On the other hand, there was a comedy which became a tragedy," referencing Kamra's disputed remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The situation escalated to vandalistic actions by the Shiv Sena's youth faction and spurred a broader political discussion. Jha stressed that both controversies are detracting from pivotal issues like the cash recovery tied to Justice Yashwant Varma, overshadowing a matter of national interest that remains undebated in Parliament.
