In a strategic enhancement of its defense capabilities, the Indian Army and Air Force are poised to receive land-attack BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. These advanced weapons can strike targets over a distance of 800 kilometers, marking a substantial upgrade from their previous range of around 300 kilometers.

The Defence Acquisition Council has already cleared the proposal to procure about 250 of these missiles, and the plan now awaits the final nod from the Cabinet Committee on Security, according to defense sources. Deployed across both desert and high-altitude regions, the missiles will significantly bolster India's defense posture.

This order is a continuation of the demand for the missiles by the Indian Navy and highlights the success of the India-Russia joint venture, though plans are in place to indigenize key components. Significant export interest from countries like the Philippines underscores the missile's global appeal, while BrahMos Aerospace is already working on next-generation variants.
