In a shocking incident rooted in a backdrop of political vendetta, P Kaleshwaran, a known history-sheeter and the nephew of former DMK functionary V K Gurusamy, was brutally murdered in Thanakankulam, Madurai. The attack occurred early Saturday, close to his residence, leaving the community in turmoil.

The deceased, a resident of the TNHB colony in Mel Anuppanadi, had a history of criminal activity, with several cases pending against him. Despite the longstanding animosity between Gurusamy and former AIADMK functionary Rajapandian's faction, police are yet to establish a link to rival gangs. Unidentified assailants, armed with sharp weapons, ambushed Kaleshwaran, inflicting fatal stab wounds.

The police have not yet ruled out any motives and are investigating with the aid of CCTV footage and advanced scientific methods. A complaint by Kaleshwaran's wife has prompted formal charges against unknown perpetrators, while the community awaits justice amid fears of renewed retaliatory violence.
