The Delhi High Court has undergone a significant reshuffle as Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay issued a revised roster for judges. Justice Subramonium Prasad will now oversee cases that were under the purview of Justice Yashwant Varma, who has been relieved of his duties amid brewing controversy.
The court's supplementary cause list, updated today, signals a significant change, citing 'recent developments' as the rationale for the decision. This comes after a March 14, 2025, fire at Justice Varma's residence allegedly uncovered a large sum of cash, igniting allegations that have been firmly denied by Varma. He claims that this scenario is a conspiracy against him.
Adding to the complexity, the Supreme Court, in a late-night move, published an inquiry report from the Delhi High Court's Chief Justice, recommending a more thorough investigation. Varma, through an official response, rejected any suggestion of ownership of the cash, emphasizing the outhouse fire incident and dissociating his family from the allegations. Meanwhile, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna established a three-member committee to dig deeper into the matter.
