Amid rising political tensions, Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood cautioned on Monday about an impending increase in electricity tariffs. The hike is attributed to a hefty Rs 27,000 crore debt inherited by power distribution companies, known as discoms, under the previous AAP government through directives by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).

During the Delhi Assembly session, Sood responded to an inquiry by AAP MLA Imran Hussain, stating that discoms are sanctioned to raise electricity costs to recoup the debt. He criticized the prior administration for not prioritizing public interest despite a Delhi High Court order directing DERC to prepare a tariff order.

Meanwhile, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP-led central government of not fulfilling its pledge to provide Rs 2,500 to Delhi's women. As the budget session proceeds, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta underscores her administration's intentions by preparing ceremonial 'Kheer' and acknowledges stakeholders in the budget-making process. The session, running from March 24 to March 28, marks the BJP's return to power after 27 years, featuring vital legislative activities and discussions on pressing civic issues.
