Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has denied allegations from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding his recent comments on the Constitution, claiming he was misquoted. Addressing the controversy, he defended his political experience and emphasized his respect for constitutional tenets.
Shivakumar clarified that his remarks have been misconstrued, stressing, "Whatever they are quoting is wrong. They are miscarrying it. We are a national party--it is our party that brought the Constitution to this country." He plans to take legal action over what he perceives as a breach of privilege.
The issue emerged following Shivakumar's statement about a Karnataka bill suggesting reservations for minorities, which BJP leaders labeled as an unconstitutional move. The row has intensified, with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju demanding clarification from Congress leaders in the Rajya Sabha on their stance regarding minority reservations.
