In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board President Darakhshan Andrabi has lauded the Union Home Ministry's recent ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM) and Awami Action Committee (AAC). Both organizations were prohibited for allegedly threatening national security and peace in the valley.
Andrabi emphasized that the ban would aid in maintaining the region's tranquility, noting that locals have experienced a decrease in militancy, allowing them to live peacefully in recent years. She urged for continuous action against any groups with intentions of disrupting the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ministry of Home Affairs declared that the JKIM, under Masroor Abbas Ansari, and the AAC, led by Umar Farooq, engaged in activities supporting terrorism and propagated anti-India rhetoric. The ministry accused these groups of funding unlawful activities that jeopardize the nation's unity and sovereignty. Home Minister Amit Shah warned of severe consequences for any such entities.
