In a spirited celebration of Holi at the Shalimar Bagh Club Society, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a significant development for the city's river transport: a small ferry cruise on River Yamuna. This project, expected to launch within three to four months, promises to enhance both connectivity and tourism in the capital.
During her address, Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the relentless efforts to clean the Yamuna, ensuring it becomes a scenic location for grand aartis, similar to those on the River Ganga in Banaras. The daily cleanup activities reflect the government's commitment to this vision, aiming for a cleaner and more beautiful riverfront in Delhi.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Inland Waterways Authority of India, aiming to promote cruise tourism across a four-kilometre stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The event at Asita Park saw attendance from prominent figures including Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.
The development of Yamuna has been a priority under the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) governance. Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa recently met with the Lieutenant Governor to discuss environmental challenges, reinforcing the government's commitment to addressing pollution and other critical issues in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a cleaner environment.
