In a notable display of support, Jammu and Kashmir's Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA, Sunil Sharma, has echoed RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's recent statement advocating for the official renaming of India to 'Bharat'. According to Sharma, such a move would underscore the nation's rich cultural heritage and civilization.
Conversely, Congress MP K Suresh reacted critically, labeling the RSS's preference for 'Bharat' over 'India' as part of a broader ideological agenda not universally embraced by the populace. These remarks were made in light of Hosabale's challenge during a book launch event to the regular use of 'India' in formal settings, advocating for 'Bharat' instead.
Hosabale further elaborated on his viewpoint, referencing instances like the G-20 summit and questioning why English terms dominate official nomenclature. He suggested a reassessment of these practices, asserting that while India aims to uplift globally, previous colonial influences have unduly prioritized English language and culture.
