Leaders from southern Indian states have declared strong opposition to the central government's plans for constituency delimitation and the introduction of a three-language policy as outlined in the New Education Policy 2020. These leaders argue that such moves pose a threat to their regional identity and autonomy.
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the significance of the southern states' economic contributions and pledged a united fight against these policies. He likened the proposals to an erasure of their existence. Supporting this stance, Karnataka Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar accused the BJP of pushing its own agenda under the guise of reforms, using regulatory bodies to implement these changes.
The concerns were echoed by Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Stalin, who called on citizens to defend the state against these 'critical challenges.' He stressed that the issues of language and constituency delimitation affect self-respect, social justice, and welfare schemes. Stalin urged people to rise and communicate the essence of this battle for regional rights and identity.
