In a contentious development in Himachal Pradesh, Congress Chief Pratibha Singh has defended the state government's decision to request funds from temples to support the Sukh Ashray scheme. The scheme, which aims to assist underprivileged children, has been a subject of debate due to the involvement of temple finances.

Singh, while speaking to ANI, emphasized the noble intent behind the initiative, highlighting its purpose of providing education and a better life for helpless children. She clarified that the government is seeking contributions not only from temples but from organizations and individuals dedicated to this charitable cause.

Opposition Leader Jairam Thakur has strongly criticized this decision, accusing the government of exerting undue pressure on temple trusts and misusing religious institutions' funds. Thakur announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party would staunchly oppose this decision in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha session.
