On Mahashivratri, President Droupadi Murmu visited the 182-meter Statue of Unity in Narmada district, Gujarat, lauded as the world's tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. According to a statement from the Gujarat CMO on Thursday, the President offered floral tributes and performed 'Pooja' at the monument's base.
Accompanied by Governor Acharya Devvrat and State Protocol Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma, the delegation admired the statue's grandeur, celebrating Patel's legacy of unity and determination. The President was warmly welcomed by the tribal communities with traditional dances at the Wall of Unity, before exploring an exhibition on India's journey to independence and Patel's pivotal unifying role.
President Murmu and the dignitaries visited the viewing gallery of the Statue of Unity, appreciating the natural splendor of the Sardar Sarovar, the Narmada Dam, and surrounding mountain ranges. Guided by a representative from the Statue of Unity, they received insights into the monument's construction, features, and available facilities. President Murmu's visit follows her arrival in Narmada for the Mahashivratri festival on Wednesday.
