BJP leader Agnimitra Paul criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent remarks on the Mahakumbh, questioning her knowledge of religious history and suggesting her statements were politically motivated. Paul remarked, 'Our Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, possesses a Master's degree in Religious History, but the current education system seems inadequate as her recent statements reflect a lack of basic understanding.'
Paul further contested Banerjee's interpretation of the Mahakumbh's occurrence after 144 years, arguing, 'If she studied Religious History properly, her claims about the Mahakumbh would not be so erroneous. Today, her statements seem aimed at appeasing certain groups.' Banerjee had disputed the idea of the Mahakumbh happening after such a long period. She contended that the holy dip occurs annually and referenced her experience with the Gangasagar Mela.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also voiced criticism of Banerjee, citing her comments on the Kumbh and highlighting issues in Bengal's law and order situation. He mentioned the recent discovery of explosives in Amdanga, attributing rampant criminal activities to insufficient police intervention. Ghosh expressed concerns over the rising voter turnout, particularly in border regions, suggesting this abrupt increase could delegitimize the electoral process.
Discussing the Bengal tea industry's state, Ghosh compared its decline to Assam's thriving tea sector, attributing Bengal's situation to political negligence. He applauded the North-East's development over the past decade under the central government's initiatives, citing improved infrastructure as evidence. 'High-speed expressways and new bridges symbolize the unprecedented progress in the North-East,' Ghosh remarked.
Furthermore, commenting on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Ghosh accused the former Delhi government of substantial corruption, predicting future legal action against fraudulent activities. 'The previous government epitomized corruption, but revelations of their misconduct will slowly surface, leading to prosecutions for those involved,' he asserted.
