Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning as five young men drowned in the Godavari river in East Godavari district. The incident took place in the village of Tadipudi in the Tallapudi mandal around 8:30 a.m. according to police.

A group of 12 men went to the river for a bath before a planned visit to a nearby temple as part of the Shivaratri festival celebrations. However, five of them did not return, while the remaining seven survived, reports said.

Rescue efforts by police, fire services, and locals are ongoing to recover the bodies. Most of those involved were reportedly under 20 years of age, adding a somber note to the festive occasion.
