Shaktikanta Das, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has taken on a new role as Principal Secretary II to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official notification from the Appointments Committee's secretariat.
The cabinet's Appointments Committee sanctioned Das's appointment, effective from the day he assumes office, with a tenure that aligns with the Prime Minister's term or until further notice. Das served conspicuously as RBI Governor from December 2018 until December 2024, overseeing pivotal financial events during his tenure.
In addition to his notable six-year stint with the RBI, Das's career spans nearly 38 years of significant contributions to the Indian government. He has held various high-impact positions across sectors such as finance, taxation, and infrastructure development. He also served as India's Alternate Governor at key global financial institutions like the World Bank and ADB. A St. Stephen's College alumnus, Das's expertise is complemented by the ongoing leadership of Pramod Kumar Mishra, the Principal Secretary I to the Prime Minister.
