The Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is set to modernize its fleet with the acquisition of over 700 new buses, including nearly 350 electric models. This significant development was unveiled during the 159th Board of Directors meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri.

Agnihotri highlighted the central government's mandate to phase out buses over 15 years old as a key factor driving this initiative. He stated that the new buses would significantly strengthen the state's transport network, promising better service delivery for residents.

The Deputy CM announced the approval of 297 electric buses, 250 Type-1A diesel buses, and 24 super luxury AC diesel buses. Additionally, the re-tendering process for 100 Tempo travellers is underway, and four quick response vehicles will be introduced for emergency management.

Agnihotri also addressed fiscal issues, criticizing the previous BJP government for financial mismanagement and insufficient HRTC employee payments. He noted a Rs 70 crore revenue increase under his administration, attributing it to improved operations and fiscal responsibility.

Furthermore, Agnihotri condemned the central government's oversight of Himachal Pradesh's financial requirements, citing the allocation of airports to Bihar while neglecting Himachal. He also pointed out a decrease in central grants and halted GST compensation, impacting the state's economy.

Emphasizing HRTC's welfare-focused approach, Agnihotri assured continued services on loss-making routes to maintain connectivity in remote areas. He vowed to maintain transparency and enhance efficiency in HRTC's operations.

Overall, with these initiatives, the Himachal Pradesh government aims to boost its transport infrastructure, provide eco-friendly services, and improve connectivity, especially in remote regions.
