West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has launched a vehement attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she referred to the forthcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 as 'Mrityu Kumbh.' On Tuesday, Adhikari called upon the Hindu and saint communities to express their strong opposition to her statement, labeling it as an assault on Hinduism.
In the state assembly, Adhikari urged, 'If you are a true Hindu, rise above politics and strongly oppose these words of Mamata Banerjee.' His call to action resulted in an assembly protest led by him and fellow BJP MLAs, who vociferously opposed the Chief Minister's remarks.
Banerjee's objections to the Maha Kumbh stem from her concerns over event management, which she deemed inadequate and, thus, potentially dangerous. BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari joined the fray, accusing Banerjee and other political figures like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav of harboring animosity towards the Hindu community, further heightening the controversy surrounding her statements.
