In a groundbreaking move towards clean energy, NTPC is pioneering India's first biomass-based thermal power project at the Solapur Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra. Utilizing bamboo alongside coal, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions while promoting sustainable energy production.

The initiative, endorsed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, involves purchasing bamboo from local farmers and integrating it into the power generation process. This collaboration promises economic benefits for the agricultural community in Solapur and neighboring regions, thanks to subsidies and support from the state government and Asian Development Bank.

Pasha Patel, chair of the CM's Environment Task Force, highlighted the environmental advantages of bamboo, including its year-round availability and adaptability to various climates, positioning it as a viable renewable energy source. NTPC's commitment to buying bamboo for the next 50 years assures farmers of a stable market, fostering large-scale cultivation.
