Tamil Nadu's political scene witnessed heightened criticism as BJP President K. Annamalai took a firm stand against the DMK government, citing a marked rise in crime rates as a point of contention. Annamalai pointed to a startling 55% surge in child marriages, alongside an 8.3% increase in crimes against women, with rape incidents having spiked by 31%.
The BJP leader expressed concern over an 8.5% increase in crimes against children, lambasting the state's apparent inability to maintain law and order. Annamalai also criticized claims by the state Education Minister about insufficient funds from the Central government affecting operational functionalities such as paying internet bills, despite a substantial budget allocation of Rs 44,670 crore for Primary Education.
Additionally, Annamalai questioned the silence of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on addressing the media concerning a recent alleged sexual assault case at Anna University, where the accused has links to the DMK. The incident has prompted police action with an individual's arrest following the student's complaint.
