Surging Coal Production Fuels Industry Growth
Coal production from captive and commercial mines increased by 34.2% to reach 131.05 million tonnes in the first three quarters of the fiscal year. According to government data, the coal sector achieved a 7.5% provisional growth in November 2024, with the industry index reaching notable heights.

In a significant boost to the coal industry, production from captive and commercial mines has surged by 34.2%, reaching a substantial 131.05 million tonnes during the April-December period of the current fiscal year.
The previous year's coal output during the same period was recorded at 97.665 million tonnes, according to a recent statement from the coal ministry. For December alone, coal production was 18.40 million tonnes.
The coal sector, as highlighted by the Index of Eight Core Industries, showed a provisional growth of 7.5% as of November 2024, climbing to 199.6 points from 185.7 points a year prior. The general index for the coal industry rose to 172.9 points over the first eight months compared to 162.5 points last year, marking an impressive 6.4% growth among all core industries.
