Reviving Silk: BTC Chief Unveils North East's Largest Eri Spinning Plant
BTC Chief Pramod Boro inaugurated the largest Eri Silk Spinning Mill in Assam's Baksa district, aiming to boost rural economy and create sustainable livelihoods. The plant, with a capacity of 450 kg per day, will provide widespread employment and employ modern technology to address production challenges.

The Bodoland Territorial Council Chief, Pramod Boro, has officially inaugurated the largest Eri Silk Spinning Plant in the North East. Located at the Integrated Textile Park in Assam's Baksa district, the facility was set up by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 14.92 crore, spanning over 12,916 sq. ft.
Equipped with 960 ring frame spindles, the mill boasts a production capacity of 450 kg per day. In his speech, BTC Chief Boro praised the project for its potential to invigorate the rural economy, focusing on creating sustainable livelihoods, particularly for women traditionally involved in Eri silk cultivation.
Boro stressed the importance of such initiatives for economic growth, urging collaboration for the plant's success. He addressed challenges such as workforce migration and equipment shortages, while highlighting the role of modern technology in overcoming these issues. DGM Bidyut Bikash Rajkonwar highlighted the employment prospects, offering direct jobs to 375 individuals and supporting about 50,000 households. Local leaders and dignitaries attended the event, marking a significant step for BTR's development.
