The Gujarat government's Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani scheme has achieved significant results within just three months of launching an online auction portal. More than 400 items have been auctioned, leading to the sale of 181 items and raising over Rs36.97 lakh for the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi, officials reported. This initiative, aimed at promoting girls' education in Gujarat, was initially launched by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat and current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
In continuation of a tradition involving the auctioning of gifts and mementoes received by the Chief Minister throughout the year, stored in the Toshakhana (treasury), the proceeds directly benefit the Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani initiative. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's leadership, technological advancements have enhanced this process. On October 2, the Gujarat Government introduced an online portal to streamline the auction of Toshakhana gifts and mementoes.
Building upon the tradition established by Narendra Modi of selling gifts and mementoes received during public events and visits, the state government launched the online portal https://cmgujmemento.gujarat.gov.in last year, allowing nationwide participation in e-auctions. Previously conducted at state-level fairs or by district collectors, these auctions have transitioned to a digital platform under Chief Minister Patel. The Finance Department made necessary amendments for this transition. Buyers must register on the portal and place bids, with the highest bidder making a digital payment to the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi. Purchased items are delivered by post through the Gujarat State Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. (Garvi). Developed by N-Code GNFC, the portal is supported by Garvi and NIFT, the latter of which handled item photography and categorization.
Since the portal's launch, 427 items have been auctioned, raising a total of Rs74,16,937, with 181 items contributing Rs36,97,376 to the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi. This transparent auction process highlights a significant milestone in supporting girls' education. (ANI)
