Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday described the murder of a sarpanch in Beed district as 'unfortunate' and announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the case. Shinde assured stringent action against the accused, emphasizing a fast-tracked judicial process.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis promised justice for the victim, Santosh Deshmukh, and confirmed that none of the perpetrators would escape accountability. Fadnavis also discussed the situation with Deshmukh's brother, ensuring that the police will identify the culprits and signal a strict punitive measure, removing political influence from the case.
The murder occurred after Deshmukh opposed an extortion attempt against an energy firm in Beed district's Massajog village. Accusations point towards local leader Vishnu Chate, allegedly demanding Rs 2 crore. Police documentation includes three FIRs related to Deshmukh's murder, an assault, and the extortion bid. To date, three people have been detained.
