Delhi has witnessed an unprecedented rise in power demand this December, with consumption soaring to 5,213 MW, surpassing all previous records for the month, according to discom officials.

This marks the first time in history that December's peak power demand in Delhi has exceeded 5,000 MW. The State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) noted this figure at 10:50 am, a significant increase from 5,046 MW recorded just the previous day. In stark contrast, December's peak demand was 4,884 MW in 2023 and 4,964 MW in 2022.

Officials expect the winter demand to continue following this upward trajectory, possibly reaching beyond 6,300 MW. To tackle these challenges, BSES spokespersons highlight the use of green energy covering up to 53% of peak demand. Moreover, advancements in AI and Machine Learning provide accurate demand forecasting.
