Gulmarg, a picturesque resort town in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, is experiencing a surge in tourism this New Year season, despite the cancellation of official celebrations due to a seven-day national mourning for the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The town, known for its breathtaking snow-capped peaks and a variety of winter sports including skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, continues to captivate visitors. Among the tourists is Kamani Singla from Punjab, who marveled at seeing snow for the first time, describing the region as a 'paradise.'

Tourist Sonu echoed this sentiment, relishing the fun of ringing in the New Year in 'paradise-like' Kashmir. Operators like Bilal Ahmed, who manage sledges and slides, report that the influx of visitors during the holiday season has been beneficial for local businesses. Additionally, attractions such as the Gulmarg Gondola cable car enhance the region's appeal, contributing to full accommodations and bustling local hospitality. (ANI)
