In a notable yet apolitical interaction, Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Sharad Pawar led a delegation of pomegranate farmers from Satara and Faltan to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. Displaying a gesture of goodwill, Pawar presented the Prime Minister with a box of pomegranates.
Emphasizing the non-political nature of the meeting, Pawar also had an audience with Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, gifting him with pomegranates as well. Pawar's meeting with Dhankhar was acknowledged in a social media post by the Vice President's office.
This series of meetings follows a major political shift in Maharashtra, where the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti alliance achieved a decisive victory in the state assembly elections, winning 235 seats. The BJP emerged as the dominant party with 132 seats, while the allied parties Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party secured 57 and 41 seats, respectively. Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition faced significant setbacks, with Congress obtaining only 16 seats.
