Waqf Amendment Bill: JPC Prepares for Critical Review and Discussion

The Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill, Jagdambika Pal, announced on Thursday that the committee will convene in Delhi on November 21 to discuss the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The outcome of this meeting will be presented during the winter session of Parliament.
Pal criticized religious leaders like Tauqeer Raza Khan for opposing the bill, urging them to participate constructively instead. Meanwhile, a study tour to Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Patna, and Lucknow has been planned to gather insights regarding the bill's implications.
The Joint Committee's efforts underscore a commitment to reform the Waqf Act, ensuring waqf properties serve the community effectively. Since August, the committee has conducted 25 meetings and consulted with 123 stakeholders, signaling a comprehensive approach to the legislative overhaul.
