Three tragic deaths have been reported due to suspected food poisoning at the government-operated Asra Shelter Home in Patna. The shelter, located in the Shastrinagar police station area of New Delhi, is now under scrutiny as officials seek answers.
Patna District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh, indicated that initial findings suggest food poisoning exacerbated by unhygienic conditions and negligence. Authorities have deployed a five-member team to thoroughly investigate. Samples of both food and water have been collected for analysis, with results expected by the end of the day. Immediate corrective measures are promised should culpability be established.
Victims include a 24-year-old woman, along with a 9-year-old and a 12-year-old girl, all succumbing to illness in the past week. Fortunately, 13 women initially affected have now recovered and been discharged from Patna Medical College and Hospital. The community awaits accountability, especially given the incident coinciding with the Chhath festival.
