A flash fire erupted at the Indian Oil Corporation refinery due to a valve malfunction, injuring eight individuals, according to a senior official's statement on Wednesday. It was misconstrued as an explosion in initial reports.

Renu Pathak from the corporate communications team confirmed that the fire was due to hydrocarbons mixing with steam, following preliminary investigations. The incident occurred during maintenance operations.

Affected employees, receiving treatment at local hospitals, are reportedly stable. The incident has not disrupted refinery operations, as swift intervention by the internal fire brigade contained the blaze.
