An Ahmedabad court has sentenced Kishanram Hiralal Sonkar, a former finance manager at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), to three years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of possessing disproportionate assets.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case in 2006, accusing Sonkar of accumulating assets worth Rs 14.11 lakh from 2002 to 2006, which reportedly exceeded his known sources of income by 84%.
After thorough investigations, the CBI filed a charge sheet in 2008 alleging Sonkar's assets reached Rs 22.15 lakh, a 62% discrepancy against his income during the specified period. The court found Sonkar guilty and imposed a Rs 25 lakh fine.
