In response to potential unrest, the Jiribam district administration has issued prohibitory orders on Monday, restricting the assembly of five or more individuals. The ban includes movement outside residences without necessary permissions, aimed at curbing activities that might escalate into unlawful gatherings.
The situation escalated after a recent fatal encounter in Jiribam district, in which 10 militants were killed by CRPF personnel. The encounter, reported by Manipur Police, also resulted in the recovery of arms and ammunition, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the area.
The District Magistrate's order, relying on police intelligence, indicates a significant risk to peace and safety due to criminal activities. Exemptions from this order apply to government and security personnel engaged in essential services. Written permits are needed for emergencies or events such as marriages and funerals within the restricted zones.
