In a significant effort to bolster Delhi's healthcare system, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has greenlit the recruitment of 1,463 medical personnel, including 701 nurses and 762 paramedical staff, through outsourcing. This decision aims to mitigate critical staffing shortages and enhance public healthcare infrastructure.
The initiative follows the recommendations of the Dr. SK Sarin Committee, set up after the Delhi High Court flagged concerns over inadequate healthcare infrastructure on February 13. The court stressed the need for a robust public health system to accommodate the city's growing population and directed the Delhi Government to provide a comprehensive plan addressing manpower and facility shortages.
Highlighting the importance of quality medical services, the court emphasized that structural reforms and substantial investments in government hospitals are necessary to rectify years of neglect. The deployment of outsourced medical staff, as advised by the Dr. Sarin Committee, is seen as a crucial step in overcoming staffing deficiencies and ensuring consistent healthcare delivery.
