Odisha Leads the Way in Millet Promotion at International Conference

At the International Millet Conference, Odisha demonstrated its pioneering efforts in promoting millets, showcasing its Millet Mission which began last year. Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo affirmed the state's leadership in this agricultural initiative while addressing attendees of the event on Monday.
The International Millet Mission seminar, highlighted by advocacy efforts from Prime Minister Modi, welcomed diverse participants, including farmers, scientists, and agricultural experts, to explore future opportunities for millet production and consumption strategies.
Prominent personalities such as Ramesh Chand and MS Swaminathan joined Odisha's Chief Minister and government officials, emphasizing the pivotal role of discussions in enhancing the millet mission. Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary Arabinda Padhee drew attention to the impressive growth of Odisha's agricultural sector, outlining plans for increased growth in fisheries and livestock.
Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand highlighted Odisha's crop sector growth, which is double the national average. However, he pointed out the lagging livestock growth compared to India's standards, urging the state to strive for a six per cent agricultural growth rate.
