Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand revealed on Monday that Odisha's crop sector has experienced a growth rate double that of the entire country. The livestock sector has similarly outpaced national growth, exceeding India's rate by 33%. However, livestock remains the only area where Odisha trails behind India's developmental pace.
Chand noted that while Odisha's agricultural and allied sectors' growth rate surpasses India's, the state's productivity in both crops and livestock remains below national averages. He emphasized the potential for further growth, urging Odisha to boost its agricultural expansion to six or seven per cent, outlining several recommendations for this improvement.
Concurrently, the Odi Art Centre, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata, and the Government of India jointly organized the Percussion Music Festival. At this event, former Odisha Chief Minister and musician, Giridhar Gumang, showcased the region's traditional Dhap music, using bamboo instruments at the Chilika Shelduck International Folk Festival.
