Punjab's Paddy Procurement Hits Milestone Amidst Kharif Season
The Centre has procured 120.67 lakh tonnes of paddy from Punjab in the current Kharif marketing season, achieving 65% of its target. The Centre has successfully procured 120.67 lakh tonnes of paddy from Punjab as of November 8, 2024, marking 65% of the projected target for the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25, set to conclude on November 30.
According to an official statement, the government has set a target of 185 lakh tonnes for paddy procurement this season, with the commodity being purchased at a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,320 per quintal, benefiting approximately 6.58 lakh farmers in the region.
The procurement process, which commenced on October 1, 2024, involves 2,927 designated mandis and temporary yards to facilitate smooth operations. The Punjab government has already allotted work to 4,743 of the 4,839 millers who applied for paddy shelling, ensuring the procurement surpasses daily arrival quantities.
