In a significant development, the Karnataka Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy. The charges stem from allegations that Kumaraswamy threatened a police officer investigating an illegal mining case linked to the minister.
The FIR, lodged at Bengaluru's Sanjay Nagar Police Station, was filed based on a complaint by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M Chandrashekar. He claimed that Kumaraswamy, alongside his son, Nikhil, made intimidating allegations against him to obstruct ongoing investigations into a mining scam.
The investigation scrutinizes Kumaraswamy's tenure as Karnataka Chief Minister between 2006 and 2008, particularly concerning his approval of a 550-acre mining lease in Bellary district, allegedly in violation of legal protocols. The Supreme Court is overseeing the case.
