The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati marked its annual Hindi Fortnight from October 15 to 30, 2024, with a host of events designed to celebrate the Hindi language and foster unity within the institution. The event saw active participation from students, faculty, staff, and members of the IITG community, underscoring the institute's commitment to promoting Hindi language and literature.

Throughout Hindi Fortnight 2024, IIT Guwahati hosted various competitions to bolster engagement with Hindi. Among the highlights were a Hindi poetry recitation competition and a Hindi noting and official letter-writing contest for staff, alongside student-focused poetry and short story writing challenges. Adding a family-friendly touch, a special poetry recital was organized for children on campus.

The fortnight's standout event was a collaborative Kavi Sammelan, conducted by the Literary Society (Lit-Soc) and the Rajbhasha Prakoshth. This gathering of faculty, staff, and students, who presented self-written Hindi poems, highlighted the richness of Hindi literature. The celebrations culminated in the 'Hindi Pakhwada Samapan Samaroh 2024' on October 30, with enthusiastic participation from the IIT Guwahati community.

The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati; Prof. Sukumar Nandi, Dean of Administration; Prof. Diganta Goswami, Registrar (in-charge), along with senior officers and faculty members. Dr. Rita Moni Baishya, Department Head of Hindi at Gauhati University, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The event featured cultural performances, including a chorus, a short play by staff, and a special act by Lit-Soc members. Addressing the gathering, the Director and Dr. Baishya spoke on the importance of Hindi as a unifying academic and cultural force.

Prizes were awarded to competition winners, celebrating the vibrant participation of the IITG community. Reflecting on the event's success, Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal remarked, 'Hindi Fortnight at IIT Guwahati is not just about celebrating language but also unity and cultural pride. The spirited participation of our community is commendable.'
