In a noteworthy development, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K Saxena has declared a relaxation of the qualifications required for recruiting victims of the 1984 riots, effective Friday. The LG's approval now lowers the minimum educational criterion for Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) positions from the 10th grade to the 8th grade, broadening the eligibility for more candidates. This measure is hailed as an essential step towards delivering assistance and justice to those affected by the 1984 unrest.

According to a statement from the Office of Delhi LG, the decision addresses decades-long administrative hold-ups and bureaucratic insensitivity. Acknowledging the urgent need for support, Saxena has directed departments to consider employment avenues for children of the deceased or elderly applicants affected by the riots, citing humanitarian considerations.

The initiative promises to secure employment for the victims, thus easing the financial strains experienced by their families. On sanctioning this move, LG Saxena remarked, "The 1984 Sikh Riots marred India's democratic image, perpetrating severe atrocities against a minority community and breaching human rights." He underscored the necessity for relief, given the immense trauma endured by victims over the last forty years. Recommendations from the Revenue Department included lowering educational prerequisites and allowing relatives of original candidates to apply for MTS roles, while the Delhi Chief Secretary suggested focusing solely on qualifying relaxations. Consequently, the proposal was returned to the Services Department for further assessment.

After a thorough analysis, the Services Department, under LG's directive, released a document proposing a one-time educational exemption for 1984 riot victims, addressing their unique situation. (ANI)
